Our Christmas letter

This year we have mailed your Christmas letter, written together with our children and yours, directly from Ethiopia.  Along with the letter, you will find our 2023 calendar listing our projects as well as a photo of our volunteers in the field. 

FROM THE TRIP REPORT OF OUR VOLUNTEERS IN ETHIOPIA

These videos represent a quick flash of the days we spent in the field in Ethiopia.

At Shashamane we were welcomed by the children of the Foster Home and by the scouts to the rhythm of their drums.  For Nunzia, a former head scout, it was a homecoming full of joy.  Her smile and her penetrating eyes enveloped us all, especially the little ones. Tariku, head scout of Shashamane, presented the children who distinguished themselves in “showing solidarity” with a book award.  

Under the portico we gathered to meet, some children (like where in a “Symposium”), told us their stories.  We enjoyed pizza, sweets, and refreshments in a warm atmosphere of conviviality.

Also at Hosanna, visiting once again with the girls of the “Bruh Alem” foster home (established in honor of Bianca d’Aponte), we were overwhelmed with big hugs, dances, and smiles. 

What a difference in meeting now the very same girls, who 3 years ago were timid and fearful, and who today are full of initiative, very loquacious, and ready to talk about themselves and demonstrate their many achievements.

In both of the Foster Homes, the abundant chocolates donated by Rita and Assunta from Varcaturo (NA) were much appreciated.

In contrast, we witnessed first-hand the negative impact that inflation, resulting in a 100% increase in the cost of basic necessities, has provoked on the majority of the population, especially on women and children.

Passing by a “fruit boutique” and seeing that this is out of the grasp of the many hungry children and mothers standing outside, forces us to understand that there is still much to be done.
